High-temperature oxidation behavior of SiBN fibers in air

Abstract SiBN fibers are one of the most admirable microwave-transparent reinforced materials for high Mach number aircrafts. Currently, detailed high-temperature oxidation behavior has not been studied yet. In this work, we with different boron contents at temperature range 1000–1400 °C in air. started to be oxidized 1100 °C, Si 3 N 4 and BN phase SiO 2 B O , respectively. Due gasification escape molten temperatures, amorphous could remained fiber surface. As further oxidized, inside may infiltrate into interior react causing precipitation hexagonal nitride (h-BN) nanoparticles formation /BN layer. Finally, complex layers two distinct concentric sublayers accompanied transition formed after oxidizing treatment.
